Chicago, decades ago, they are getting ready for the party.
It’s Halloween on the other side of the window,
And there is no getting ready for me anyway.
The motionless figure of me,
Scary! Weird,
Makes them jump; I am in.
Girls are screaming.
Police are here.
Boys are shouting at the top of their voice.
My shadow brings the candles,
puts on a costume,
The show begins.
The costume catches the fire,
The candles cry,
The after-party is in the ashtray.
